Go Ahead Eagles learns in Europe: 'That's the best of this team'. Melvin Boel takes with his head held high farewell from the Europa League with Go Ahead Eagles. The coach is proud of his team, which collected seven points. The adventure ended on Thursday with a goalless draw against Braga. The duel with the Portuguese was solid and not sparkling, but Boel was happy with one aspect: 'This team can learn from games, that's the best of this team', he said during the press conference after the game. 'Last week we gave away two goals very naively. Then I say: It doesn't always have to be beautiful and footballing solved. Sometimes you can just kick the ball away.' That did Go Ahead against Braga. The Deventenaren gave little away against the team that was already secured for the last 16. 'We were a lot more mature. We did well against a team that scores easily. We gave relatively little away, but created not much. That last one could have been better, but I close the campaign with a positive feeling.' Pride dominated at Go Ahead and also at Boel. 'If you look at the whole campaign we had, then I'm proud. Before, some thought: What does Go Ahead have to look for in Europe? We lost to FCSB. I hoped that we would learn from that game and that we did. We had the faith that we could participate and that we didn't have to be a ugly duckling in Europe.' Even stronger: of the three Dutch participants, Go Ahead collected the most points. 'We are not so busy with other clubs and look at ourselves, but I never had the feeling that we would get zero points. Before, I never could have thought that we would win in Athens and from Aston Villa. Seven points I had signed up for beforehand.'
