The Rotterdam police have reversed their decision to allow Go Ahead Eagles supporters to travel to De Kuip by train. Only car or bus combinations are now allowed. According to the police, there is a risk of disturbance to public order. The decision follows recent incidents around matches in the paid football. The police in Rotterdam state that train travel in particular brings risks, writes the Algemeen Dagblad. This is also mentioned as a possible cross-over with other public, among other things due to the carnival weekend. Within the supporters' circles, the measure causes confusion and irritation. Carli Klijn of supporters' association De Feijenoorder calls the decision difficult to reconcile with the principle of 'normalization', where supporters in principle can travel freely unless there are compelling reasons against it. According to him, a combination arrangement is fine for those who choose it, but not as a mandatory measure for everyone. Football lawyer Christiaan Visser understands the frustration about the late moment when the decision was made, but places it in context. According to him, a municipality can also impose additional measures a few days before a match, as long as they are well motivated and based on risks to public order. In practice, supporters often find themselves on the back foot when that motivation is accepted.
