Go Ahead Eagles has decided to fire head coach Melvin Boel immediately. The club management finds that the collaboration no longer meets the expectations. Boel was the head coach of Go Ahead Eagles for only one season, after joining from FC Dordrecht last summer. He was previously the head coach of BVCB. The club management has concluded after evaluation talks that the collaboration no longer meets the expectations of both parties. Boel faced a challenging task when he joined the bekerwinnaar last year. Due to the surprising win of the KNVB Beker, the expectations were high and the team had to deal with a busy schedule due to European commitments. Despite these circumstances, Go Ahead Eagles was able to achieve the pre-set goals. The Deventenaren finished 12th in the Eredivisie, reached the quarterfinals of the beker and were even the best-performing Dutch club in the Europa League with seven points. General director Jan Willem van Dop expresses his appreciation for Boel's work in a statement. According to him, the trainer has made a significant contribution to the further professionalization of the club, but ultimately, the collaboration did not fully meet the expectations with which both parties embarked on the adventure. Go Ahead Eagles seems not to be standing still. Joseph Oosting is the main candidate to fill the vacancy. The 54-year-old coach was previously successful at RKC Waalwijk and FC Twente. After periods at FC Twente and the Belgian Royal Antwerp, where he recently left, a return to the Eredivisie seems to be looming.
